Deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, in an area known
as the High Country, there are many great NC hiking trails and
places to go NC hiking. For many residents, going hiking is a great
way to get out and see the gorgeous mountain landscapes and
panoramic views, as well as an excellent way to relieve the stresses
of the day. With the Blue Ridge Parkway running through Watauga
County and the surrounding areas, there are many great locations to
enjoy an afternoon of hiking. Many of these NC hiking trails are widely known
while others are local hotspots kept relatively discreet.
The Boone Fork Trail is a very popular trail, located at milepost
296.5 and is a favorite among many locals. The Moses H. Cone
Memorial Park is located along the parkway and provides 25 miles of
trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Around
Grandfather Mountain there are several great spots to go NC hiking
and view the area. The Linn Cove Viaduct Access Trail is an easy
trail and gives you a chance to check out the Linn Cove Viaduct. A
short drive away from Blowing Rock, you will find the Linville Gorge
area trails, where you can view Linville Falls and the many special
places in the gorge.
There are other great places located throughout the High Country
that are great NC hiking areas, providing hiking for all levels. For
those that would like a less strenuous activity, there are several
community parks and the Greenway Trail in Boone NC, which is
excellent for jogging and walking. Going hiking in NC is a great way
to get out and view the spots that you might miss from a car. Learn
