A native of Waynesville, North Carolina, Maurice graduated with a degree in Anthropology from Appalachian State University. Leaving the Blue Ridge Mountains behind, he left to pursue graduate studies at Florida State University. After receiving a graduate degree in Archeology, Maurice proceeded to the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida and spent seventeen years directing the Museum’s field program in Spanish Colonial Archeology. His wife Yvonne Mack is a Radiation Oncologist at the Seby B. Jones Cancer Center in Boone, and they have two wonderful boys who are all about the outdoors.
